Bottom line: Choose domain names that have a good history.

At the same time, you can see how a particular web resource looked before.

Rule #4: Your store name (domain) should be easy to pronounce

If you suddenly decide to name your store for selling hearing aids "Neslyshashiy", then the domain name will be something like "Neslyshashiy.ru". In transliteration, this is very difficult to pronounce.

A German tool store does not need to be occupant resident lists called "DeutschesWerkzeug.ru".

Only those who know English very well will remember the name of the accessories store "LightAccessories.ru".

Conclusion: an online store name in English, German or another foreign language is not the best solution. It should be easy to hear and not imply knowledge of foreign languages.

Rule #5: When entering a name, search engines should not correct it to something else.

A real-life example. When choosing a name, the owners came up with "Diko Obraz". But search engines constantly corrected it to "Dikobras". Only a year later, the online store took the top positions for brand queries, and not for all of them.

If search engines had not corrected this name, then in 2-4 months the online store would have reached the TOP for the most important request - brand. This is the name of the request when a user searches for your site by name and wants to make a purchase from you. This request is considered the most valuable, because the person is set on cooperation with you.

Conclusion: just enter the proposed name into the Yandex and Google search and check if the system corrects it.

Ideally, a search engine should not automatically substitute other results.

Rule #6: Don't get tied to a niche: you don't know how your product range will develop further

Now you sell women's dresses, and in a year you will smoothly switch to underwear. With the name dress.ru it will look ridiculous, won't it?

Conclusion: choose abstract names for your online store that are not tied to a niche. Look at the famous brands around you. It is almost never possible to understand from the name what exactly they specialize in, but their names are well-known.

Rule #7: Don't use popular words that make your store harder to find.

Don't choose names like "Piece in the sky", because the search results will first show proverbs and only after 25-30 sites - your online store. Of course, a person can refine the request to "pie in the sky online store St. Petersburg". But is it worth bothering potential customers like that?

Conclusion: you can come up with a name for the store.

Rule #8: Check the names of competing stores

Once you have decided on a name, make sure that your competitors do not operate under the same name. Otherwise, remembering what you are called will make the customer buy from them next time.

It has happened that a store that actually works well was criticized by customers for the dishonest attitude of a store with the same name.

Conclusion: your store name should not repeat the names of your competitors. And it would be better if it did not remind you of anything at all.
