This post was contributed by Toshihiro Moriya and Takaya Murakami of Nikon Corporation about their efforts to develop a remote monitoring platform for metal 3D printers. This contribution is the first of two parts. The second part can be accessed here , so please take a look at the part that interests you.

Introduction
Nikon Corporation develops and sells the Lasermeister series of laser processing machines. By applying the optical measurement and precision control cultivated in semiconductor exposure equipment, various laser processing can be performed with high precision, and this product can meet a wide range of needs in the material processing field, from metal additive manufacturing to marking, joining, and organize your finances with mint precision removal processing of various materials. This time, we developed a remote monitoring platform called One Board as an IoT platform for remote monitoring of Lasermeister . As of October 2024, more than dozens of metal 3D printers have been connected to One Board, and this number is expected to increase in the future. This One Board is built on AWS. AWS IoT Greengrass is used to collect data from metal 3D printers, Amazon Cognito is used for user authentication, and Amazon Timestream, a fully managed database for handling time series data and a proven data accumulation platform for IoT platforms, is used to accumulate time series data. Timestream enables quick access to time series data generated by various sensors installed in metal 3D printers. By combining various AWS services in this way, the system was built in just 10 months, and operating costs after construction were kept low.

In this post, I will first provide an overview of the Lasermeister series and One Board, then explain the architecture of One Board. In the second part, I will explain technical aspects such as the Timestream data model.

Product Overview
Laser processing machine Lasermeister series
The Lasermeister series of laser processing machines consists of the Lasermeister 100A series and Lasermeister LM300A metal 3D printers for metal additive manufacturing, and the Lasermeister 1000S series laser removal machines for precision removal processing. Of these, the remote monitoring platform One Board currently targets the Lasermeister 100A series and Lasermeister LM300A.

The Lasermeister 100A series is a metal 3D printer developed with the concept of "a device that anyone can easily use" so that you can easily try out metal additive manufacturing technology. Its very compact size means it can be installed anywhere, and it can be installed in any concrete building. It also complies with safety standards, making it a device that anyone, including students and designers, can use with confidence. In addition, various metals can be used as metal powder for metal additive manufacturing.

Meanwhile, the Lasermeister LM300A is a metal 3D printer developed with industrial applications in mind. One of its main features is that, in conjunction with the 3D scanner Lasermeister SB100, it provides high-precision, automated repair solutions for industrial parts such as turbine blades.
