Me: “And apart from that, do you think you have the skills to write a book?” (Yes, I love the subjunctive!)
"Well, I don't know..."
Me: "Your thoughtless sentence is an insult to every author. Writing a book requires time, a topic, a trained writing style and a lot of perseverance. Your sentence sounds to me a bit like: 'When I have time, I'll perform heart surgery.'"
"..."
I'm not making myself popular denmark telegram screening by saying this, but at least I'm honest and I know what I'm talking about.
Ergo: Avoid using “sometime”! Write precisely when and who does what!
Compare: “Someday I’ll write a book.” with “Yesterday I started the first chapter of my book.”
When you use these or similar words, you are usually generalizing in an inadmissible way. This can have dramatic consequences.
This generalization occurs in its most blatant form among racists. They pigeonhole people based on their appearance and place themselves above them.
I would love to see every Ku Klux Klan member stranded in the southern Sahara. If they found an oasis full of Africans, they would probably be quickly cured of their mental illness. At least as long as they were thirsty.
If you don't want to be a racist, you should avoid generalizations. Because let's be honest! Do you know everyone in the group described?
