Tracking cookies, also known as marketing cookies, are cookies that are used within a domain or across different domains to record the surfing behavior of visitors. This can ultimately be used to make targeted offers. A well-known example of this are the remarketing campaigns of Google AdWords. Not only Google AdWords uses tracking cookies, social media accounts, newsletters and partner sites also use these cookies. Consent is required for tracking personal data. After a user has accepted that cookies are tracked, these cookies may be placed.
What will change in the Dutch cookie law?
The current Dutch cookie law may be replaced by the European cookie law on 25 May 2018. The purpose of the change? To increase trust in and the security of digital services. With this objective, the European Union previously introduced the Personal Data Act. In 2019, the European cookie law, also known as the e-privacy regulation , may also be introduced.
Before the introduction of the e-Privacy hong kong telephone number Regulation, the EU conducted a survey of citizens' opinions. Key conclusions from this survey were:
78 percent find it very important that personal information on their computer, smartphone or tablet can only be accessed after their permission
89 percent agree with the proposed option that their browser's default settings should prevent information sharing.

The European Commission wants internet users to determine in their browser settings whether they accept or refuse privacy-sensitive tracking cookies. Currently, this is requested separately for each website. Internet users must accept cookies, otherwise in many cases a non-working website appears. In the e-privacy regulation, placing cookies will only be permitted if:
only functional cookies are used
Analytical cookies are used purely for our own use and are not shared with third parties. For Google Analytics, the following conditions (pdf) must be met in order to continue using it.
