Managing your readers' expectations is one of the keys to creating a successful blog. You need to make visitors want to return to your blog because they expect to receive value from your posts in the future. Creating expectations also has the danger of disappointing. Never promise more than you can deliver.

You decided to go to the cinema over the weekend. Chuck Norris has a new movie out: “Showdown in Hanoi”. You didn’t need to read the reviews because just from the title this definitely had to be his best movie ever. It’s been a while since you’ve seen your favourite movie actor in action. You were looking forward to seeing Chuck kick his enemies’ asses. But then came the disappointment. What happened? Instead of seeing a Karate movie as the name indicated, Chuck Norris appeared as a Vietnam veteran who at 70 years old returned to Hanoi to fall in love with a Vietnamese woman 40 years younger than him. A bore!

How not to disappoint your readers

If you're a Chuck Norris fan, you expect him to kick the shit out of kenya phone numbers his enemies with his karate chops (sometimes he does this to blog trolls, too ). Through his previous films, he's built up a fan base that expects this from him when they go to the theater to see one of his movies. It doesn't matter that he's already 70 years old. Fans want to see him in combat.

When you have a blog and you want to build loyalty among your readers , one key is to create the right expectations. You have to bring your blog visitors to a level of trust where they will think they know you. To a certain extent you have to be predictable. A reader wants to know what you do, what you stand for and what you can bring to them in the coming weeks on your blog. The key is that through what you do today, you create expectations for the future. For these to be positive you have to focus on the following points:

Create quality content – As a rule of thumb, 2 out of 3 posts should be top quality and impactful. You can afford to have a weaker article every now and then because all of us can have a bad day. If your blog only has one post worth reading, you’re going to be considered a “one-hit-wonder” singer . You make it big once, but then you’re never heard from again.
