The team itself, which you must motivate to work with you

Post by shamimhasan07 »

One example of such a discovery was the speech by Roman Mitin from IYNO at the recent BIM breakfast.

In his report, he shared ideas on how to properly organize the approach to the work of the BIM department from the point of view of the product approach.

What is a product?
First, it is worth defining what is meant by a product. A product is a finished result of phone number list some activity that satisfies the needs of the client.

Any result is a product in some market. Roman Mitin identified four such markets:

Client
Here the BIM department adds value to the client by working with the model, data from the model, etc.
Employee
.
Contractor
Working with this market is also necessary to increase the motivation of contractors to work with your company.
Investor
In any company there are investors whose interest must be maintained.
Product activities
Often, many companies devote a lot of time to project activities, that is, a certain set of temporary processes aimed at creating a unique product or changing other processes.

At the same time, activities aimed at developing the product and delivering value to both internal and external customers are forgotten and lost in the routine.

What can be a product?
Roman Mitin explained that various scripts, instructions, reports or even SOD are not products, and gave an example of “real” products:

Access to the database of current, in-demand families, scripts and templates
Organized process for exchanging engineering data
The ability to get technical support at the right time
The ability to quickly complete your task
How to develop a product?
One approach that can be used in product development is known as unit economics. This approach is based on assessing the profitability of one unit - a single product or service.

The assessment is based on the ratio of the unit cost and the effect it brings to the client. The benefit of the effect is calculated from the number of subsequent sales of your product or service. That is, for example, you can write a script to automate the construction of a dendroplan. But you will be able to sell this product only once, since the next contractor will have different desires and requirements.

Therefore, when creating a product, it is worth conducting research to understand whether it will be in demand by more than just one client. But how to conduct such research?

Customer Development
To do this, companies use the Customer Development (CustDev) methodology, which involves conducting special interviews aimed at identifying the client's needs. CustDev is a repetitive process consisting of four stages. To better explain them, let's take the example of a dendroplan:

Creating hypotheses
It is necessary to automate the compilation of a dendroplan to facilitate and shorten this process.
Creating a script
Before interviewing a client, you need to prepare a plan for the conversation. The questions should be indirect, with the goal of learning about the client's life and what he struggles with and what hinders him.
Selecting Respondents
It is very important to correctly select the target audience with whom you will conduct interviews and not waste time on a person who is not related to the need that the potential product can fill.
Conducting an interview
Interviews can be divided into two categories: problem-based, preparation for which takes place at the stages described earlier, and solution-based, when you approach the client with a ready-made plan for solving his problem.
And if you need a visual representation of this framework, check out the scribing, which also includes a useful book to help you write the most effective conversation script.

BIM breakfast
What's the bottom line?
In conclusion, Roman Mitin noted that every BIM specialist should ask themselves the reasons why they are creating a product. And if they can find a clear answer to this question, as well as find out why their colleagues are working on it, then the entire team will be able to create an effective, in-demand BIM product.
