Focus on priorities and prior preparation

We focus on the most important topics first. I ask each Squader what is most important for them to discuss and we prioritize those points. This practice ensures that we are always focused on what really matters.

Advance preparation is key to a productive conversation. Both the Squaders and I prepare by reviewing previous notes and defining the objective of the meeting. This preparation allows us to make the most of our time together.

Two-way feedback is another essential component. We use 1:1 to give and receive feedback. This exchange not only improves performance, but also strengthens the relationship and mutual trust.

Appropriate duration of One-on-One meetings
I keep meetings short and to the point. Typically 30 minutes is enough for an effective 1:1, though it can be extended to 45 or 60 minutes if necessary. The key is to be efficient and respect everyone’s time.

Arriving early and getting straight to the point is a practice I always follow. I usually arrive a couple of minutes early to say hello and break the ice, but then it's all about getting down to business. This allows us to maximize time and focus on the important topics from the start.
