Observing users in action gives us a much clearer and more accurate view of how they interact with our product. Instead of relying on what they say, we can see what they actually do. This allows us to identify usage patterns, recurring issues, and areas where we can improve.
Recently, I was in a meeting with Luciano Trujillo reviewing the new version of Inbound Tools. Instead of walking me through the onboarding process step by step, Luciano decided to observe how I interacted with the platform. This simple action revealed several friction points that we wouldn’t have identified with verbal feedback alone.
Observation allows us to identify hidden problems
When we observe users, we can identify problems that they themselves may not be aware of or may not mention in their feedback . These hidden problems are often the most critical and can have a huge impact on the user experience.
For example, at Mental Test Lab, when observing how users navigated our platform, list of ecuador cell phone numbers we found that many were getting stuck at certain stages of the process. These issues weren’t mentioned in the positive feedback we received, but they were crucial to improving user experience and increasing retention.
Why is it important to observe users instead of just listening to their positive feedback?
Observing users allows us to gain a more complete and accurate view of how they interact with our product. While positive feedback can be helpful in motivating us and validating our ideas, observation gives us valuable insights into the problems and challenges our users face. This allows us to make meaningful improvements and create a more satisfying user experience.
