Lesson 6: Kill your darlings
From our drive for innovation, enthusiasm and grants, we have also initiated projects to 'strengthen the eco-system' and accelerate the development of the market. To name just a few, we set up the Business Incubator NaiLab in Kenya and were at the basis of AfriLabs , a network of 29 labs in Africa. Yet we did not grow fast enough.
When successful entrepreneur Simone Brummelhuis gave us advice about this, she had only one piece of advice: “Kill your darlings. Concentrate on your core tasks for two months and just see what happens.”
Simone was right. Hocus pocus: focus! It started to flow again. All the 'pet albania mobile phone number list projects' were listed one by one. We critically examined whether they could stand on their own two feet, whether we should stop them or whether we should look for a good 'shelter'.
A vision to set up an organization that contributes to a better world seems fantastic. But how do you, as initiators, determine whether you are on the right track?
