For decades, political parties were able to adhere to ironclad election laws for their campaign strategy. Our analysis of the redistricting elections in Alphen aan den Rijn shows that these do not simply apply to online media. But how can local political parties in the Netherlands build their online strategy?
Finding and connecting voters
Obama achieved success in the United States with his viral strategy. By cleverly using peru mobile phone number list 'open data', his campaign team knew at the level of the neighborhood, street and even house number whether citizens were interested in the election message. It does not seem to be that far in the Netherlands yet. The 'open data' that Obama used is largely locked away here. Another difference is that the election battle on social media was mainly about campaign funds.
With several local political parties of different colours, we are currently preparing the online media campaign. The approach is not yet complete, but we believe that the following five steps will help local parties find and connect voters. For each step, we provide practical tips. Sometimes so practical that the average Frankwatching reader probably finds them obvious: but we know from practice that they are more than welcome.
