How AI helps targeters in work and everyday life: a story from Warsaw

Post by Mimakte »

Liya Zhuk has built a successful career in targeted advertising, moved from Belarus to Poland and began studying artificial intelligence. Liya shared with the editors how AI helps her in her work and how automation of work processes is useful

Cases Our Students neural networks for everyone
My name is Liya Zhuk, I am 44, I am from Minsk, but I live in Warsaw. I graduated from the Belarusian State University of Economics with a degree in banking and, ironically, I did not work in a bank for a single day. When applying to the university, I was in doubt between marketing and finance, I wanted to go into marketing, but finance seemed more prestigious. I chose the second path, only to return to the first one many years later.

My work experience
When I first arrived in Minsk, I got a job at a grocery store right at the train station, with a huge flow of people. But already in my first year, I took a chance and tried to respond to a vacancy at Electrosila, a large retail chain. This experience showed that if you really want it, no limits will get in the way. It was a great company with growth opportunities, but then I went on maternity leave for the first time.

While on maternity leave, I launched a small business selling baby carriages and car seats. This not only brought in income, but also opened my eyes to how great it is to build something of your own. I could afford to live well on the money I earned and even travel sometimes.

After maternity leave, the question arose: should I develop my business or try myself in a new direction? I decided that I wanted to go to the office, I wanted to prove myself, and I got a job at a company supplying interactive equipment for schools, where I quickly rose to the rank of deputy director. Later, I moved to PrintLux, where I worked for many years as a product manager for projection equipment with a dealer network throughout Belarus, planning deliveries and expanding the product line. I worked with large and well-known brands such as Panasonic, Epson, Barco and others, constantly underwent training and participated in various seminars and conferences. This experience gave me knowledge of the market and the ability to build long-term partnerships.

During my second maternity leave I again encountered financial difficulties, and this time I organized the delivery of goods from Poland. Things were going well, but I returned to work before the end of my maternity leave - they were waiting for me there, and I was also waiting for my return. I sincerely loved my company and what I did there. That is why I was on maternity leave for less than 2 years.

And then there was the move to Poland and finally the opportunity to do what I always dreamed of! I finally came to marketing and targeting in full measure, combined my experience with my hobbies, and now I help businesses attract clients.

Interest in neural networks
Neural networks have interested me since their inception, I understood that they were the future. I understood that if you don’t switch on and start using AI, you won’t stand still, you’ll just roll backwards at an increasing speed. The world has changed, you need to keep up with it.

In fact, I warmed up for a relatively long time, I went to a webinar, I liked everything very much, I felt the professionalism, but I decided that I would definitely take the course, but a little later...

However, a girl called me back, she was very nice, and somehow, word for word, despite the fact that I said that I would definitely not buy now, we had a pleasant and constructive dialogue. And then she offered me a package with a children's programming camp, and my son was staying home on vacation and I, as a person who knows how to count money and benefits, realized that the offer was becoming even more interesting. And I decided not to put it off, but to study now, and several times later I thanked myself for this decision, since knowledge made my work much easier. I think like a freelancer: with knowledge in the field of AI, you can do your work faster, and even if your income remains the same, but less time is spent, and accordingly the cost of your hour increases and you earn more in any case.

How I studied
The material in "Zerocoder" is perfectly presented, the speakers are young and talented, the lessons are well structured. I liked that there is a lesson plan under the video. Everything is explained in very simple language and understandably. But there is really a lot of material, you need to set aside time for training, a lot of time.

I was a little late, I submitted my final work in the last days of support, as it was a condition for receiving the diploma, fortunately access to the course was longer than the planned completion.

How I use neural networks
I use AI everywhere, what I don't use yet, I know where to get and how to deal with it, I just haven't had the need yet. Google search doesn't exist for me anymore, I solve all my issues through ChatGPT.

Of course, these are texts, these are ideas, these are data analyses, this is the generation of images, presentations.

Besides work, I use AI every day in everyday life, for example, when choosing a monitor, I tell it what it will be used for, ask it to indicate what characteristics to pay attention to, and then ask it to select models for me.

For example, I write a prompt like this: I will use the monitor to create advertising creatives, I would like it to have good color rendering, but then I would like to give this monitor to my son, and he will need it for computer games, choose a model for me that would ideally meet these conditions.

Or I upload the child's blood test results, describe the symptoms and ask him to analyze and suggest diagnoses and a course of action. And then I can go to the doctor with him, asking him specific questions.

My plans for the future
I plan to study AI more deeply, I am very interested in the topic of creating assistants. In essence, those who can help experts, answering all customer questions, answering better than a person would.

I don’t have many projects yet, but I go through each one using AI in one way or another at all stages: from defining a strategy, developing a content plan, analyzing the target audience and competitors, preparing advertising creatives, offers, and analyzing the results. And this greatly simplifies the process.

I don't like to stop, I've already started, it's important for me to finish. In this case, I want to learn everything new, despite being far from a student. Sometimes I'm so sorry that I only have 24 hours a day and only one life, the world is so beautiful and multifaceted, there are so many interesting things in it. I love new places, traveling and generally not a monotonous life. All this requires money and time, and for me the possibilities of automation are important, firstly, to earn more, secondly, to have more free time, in this AI is the best assistant.
