Augmented reality in the real world

Post by Reddi2 »

Finally, let's talk about how augmented reality technology can change the user experience in the real world.

We mentioned Pokémon Go above and how it uses GPS data from the user's mobile device. This technology allows players to follow Pokémon wherever they go: restaurants, stores, parks, etc.

But what if we push the boundaries a little? Geo-enabled augmented reality doesn’t just help users find things in their physical surroundings. It can be used to enhance your walks in the real world.

Think about the last time you traveled to another country. You may have used a translator to translate unfamiliar phrases. You may have also asked Siri to translate something for you. But think about how great it would ivory-coast phone number data be if you didn’t have to. A road sign. A menu at a restaurant. An article in a magazine.

The Google Translate app tries to make this possible:

Google Translate Uses Camera to Find Foreign Text
In the example in the picture, a handwritten phrase in English is highlighted: "Where is the bathroom?" Select the language from which you want to translate the phrase, highlight the text fragment for translation:

Google Translate Translates Photographed Text
The translation is not always 100% accurate, which may be due to sloppy handwriting (in the case of handwritten text). But, of course, the app makes life easier for users who need a quick translation.

Use cases
There are other augmented reality apps that use GPS data from a mobile device.

For example, the FindMyCar app. Of course, the technology does not work perfectly, since it cannot accurately record the position of the car, but it suggests the right direction. In the future, more advanced apps may appear - from Google or Apple Maps, allowing people to quickly navigate the area.
