When Zenger met Liang Wu, a fellow student who was leading a seminar on urban design and environmental issues, he knew he had found a partner for the project. Both wanted to develop an ecological and economic solution to the problem.



In 2014, before graduating from university, the friends gathered a team of experts in horticulture, computer science, architecture, and mechanical engineering and launched Green City Solutions.

The company now has 35 employees. Their mission is both simple and complex: to bring nature into the city and scale its positive impact on the atmosphere. This is how CityTree was born, a structure that can purify the volume of air inhaled by 7,000 people per hour.

An oasis of clean air
From the outside, CityTree looks like a bench with a tower covered nepal number data in moss. Integrated IoT technology provides constant feedback on performance and conditions, as well as environmental data from the environment.



According to Green City Solutions, CityTree improves ambient air quality by 53% and can cool it by 4°C. The device is not designed to dramatically change the air quality of an entire city, but it can create an oasis of breathable air in places where people tend to linger.

“Imagine a bus stop on a busy street, a street café, a train platform, a schoolyard in the city center, even a campus,” says Zenger. Such devices are already appearing in cities across Europe and Asia, including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Hong Kong and Cork, Ireland. Zenger says Green City Solutions is considering venture funding in the U.S. to break into the North American market.

Ambitious plan
For Green City Solutions, the CityTree project is just the beginning. The company is also testing WallBreeze, a modular moss wall that can be installed on the exterior walls of buildings. Using the same technologies and filtration systems as CityTree, WallBreeze could provide more breathable air in the area around the installation.
