The Impact of the Pandemic on the Use of Biometric Data

Post by Bappy11 »

35% of participants surveyed in our study have become more concerned about data privacy, hacking and the possibility of their personal information being hacked online since the start of the pandemic.

Despite some increase in concerns about data security, a minority of respondents say they started using biometrics after the pandemic began. 14% started using fingerprint scanning after the pandemic began, 12% started using facial recognition and 9% started using voice recognition after the pandemic began.

However, most respondents say they had already used biometric methods before the pandemic, as we can see from the example of the most popular method, fingerprinting, in the graph.

Biometric data is most commonly used to unlock apps or devices on the smartphone vietnam telegram data (83%), followed by financial transactions and ID/passport checks (29% each).

Concerns about biometric technologies
47% of biometric users are unaware that personal data could be shared with other companies when using biometrics. 64% of all survey participants say they are not very comfortable or not at all comfortable with the fact that their personal data could be shared with other companies.

These are the most frequently cited concerns when using biometric technologies:

misuse of biometric data (53%)
Possibility of identity theft (40%)
Data breaches in which biometric data is lost or stolen (35%)
After all, 25% of participants stated that they have no concerns about the use of biometric technologies.

While the processing of biometric data is prohibited by law under Article 9 of the GDPR , there are situations that are regulated but do not fall under these conditions. For example, if an individual's consent has been explicitly given, such as by accepting the terms of use of a website or application, it may be possible to share this type of sensitive information.
