Surf the Internet anonymously

Post by mouakter13 »

Experts first realized that the world needed VPNs after the launch of the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET). Developed by the US Government's Department of Defense, ARPANET was an early version of the Internet.

ARPANET spurred the creation of the Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). TCP/IP allowed local devices and networks to connect over a shared network. This introduced a cybersecurity risk , as an outsider could use the network to access the devices within it.

Researchers at AT&T Bell Labs and Columbia University developed the first VPN, the software-based IP encryption protocol (swIPe), in 1993. Wei Xu and Gurdeep Singh-Pall developed further VPN technology in 1994 and 1996, respectively. Xu created IPSec, and Singh-Pall (a Microsoft employee) created the Peer-to-Peer Tunneling Protocol (PPTP).

In the early 2000s, VPNs were used by many businesses and governments, and consumers began to adopt them later in the mid-2010s.

Uses of VPNs
VPNs are useful for people who want to:

Using Wi-Fi in a public place that is vulnerable to hacking or iran whatsapp number data phishing (such as airports, coffee shops, and coworking spaces)
Avoid targeted ads
Hide your data from your ISP
Get better deals on flights, hotels, big purchases, etc.
Avoid government censorship or surveillance
Accessing websites and content with geographic restrictions
Protect yourself from viruses, ransomware, worms and trojans
The three most common reasons people used a VPN were “for general security” (55%), “for general privacy” (54%), and “to access secure networks for my work” (41%).

Security.org research shows that 41% of Americans use a VPN for personal or professional use. However, a larger percentage may use a VPN on a work or school device and simply aren't aware that the VPN is there.

Is it illegal to use a VPN?
Since the beginning of 2022, several countries have made VPN use illegal, including China, Iraq, North Korea, Russia, Turkey, Belarus, and Turkmenistan. Several countries partially block VPNs, including Uganda, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Oman.

But VPNs are 100% legal in most countries, including the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand.
