Oracle Introduces Autonomous Database Cloud and Robotic Security
Larry Ellison
In his keynote speech at Oracle OpenWorld, Larry Ellison said that Autonomous Database Cloud , like the new security system , uses machine learning for automation to eliminate human labor, human error, and manual tuning.
If everything Oracle CTO and co-founder Larry Ellison said on October 1 is true, the company's board, investors, and shareholders should have a meeting to figure out whether Oracle can actually make money from this newfangled cloud services business.
Ellison spent a good portion of his romania whatsapp data speech at v OpenWorld 2017 in San Francisco demonstrating the benefits of “cheap” workload processing in Oracle’s cloud compared to Amazon Web Services’ relational database. He explained, using a number of examples, that since Oracle’s cloud service is 6 to 15 times faster than AWS in all cases for the same workloads, that means Oracle will be 6 to 15 times “cheaper” than AWS.
The specifics were as follows. For a "market study" with the same workload, Ellison pitted an instance of an 8-node cluster in Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse Cloud against a similar 8-node AWS DS2.xlarge cloud cluster. The same eight queries were submitted to both clouds.
The timers were started. According to Oracle, AWS's processors completed the task in 244 seconds, a computation time that costs users 27 cents. Oracle's own service completed the task in just 38 seconds, or 2 cents of cloud time. This should set the standard for new super-fast database services, Ellison says.
