IPO in Russia: Was there a boom in 2024 and what to expect in 2025

Post by monira444 »

Read about the results of initial public offerings on the Russian market and prospects for 2025 in the RIA Novosti article.

Last year, 2024, 14 Russian companies held IPOs - this is the maximum in the last 17 years. However, for investors who planned to make money on new names, the year was not so successful - the shares of only three debutants ended the year in the plus. Can we say that there was a boom in the IPO market and what are the prospects for initial placements in 2025, read in the RIA MO material.

Why are they talking about an IPO boom in Russia?

In 2024, 13 companies held initial public offerings on the thailand mobile database Moscow Exchange, and another issuer, battery supplier and microchip manufacturer Element, entered trading on the St. Petersburg Exchange. More newcomers held an initial listing in Russia only in 2007, when 18 domestic companies decided to attract investment capital through shares, recalls Ruslan Spinka, Director of Sales and Client Service at Fontvielle Investment Company.

From 2010 to 2020, the number of IPOs per year averaged between two and four (the figures do not include listings on foreign exchanges, but include those companies that were listed both in Russia and abroad). The only exceptions were 2012 and 2014, when one company entered the market. In 2018 and 2019, there were no initial public offerings in our country at all. In 2021, there was some recovery in the corresponding sector of the Russian stock market - 5 companies held IPOs. This was the maximum in a decade. Then came 2022, a difficult year for the domestic investment industry, in which the number of placements again dropped to one. In 2023, the year before last, 8 companies offered their shares to investors for the first time - the largest number since 2007, the expert cites statistics.
