Something for everyone to see

Post by arzina998 »

Brenda and Nienke had never heard of vlogging before, until they came into contact with this form of new media through their grandchildren. Both sisters decided to participate in a vlogging workshop for people over 50. “We received a lot of positive reactions to our vlogs. We also had interviews with broadcasters MAX and Metro, we were called during the Coen & Sander Show on Radio 538 and we will soon be in the Gelredome during a day of the Uwoon”, according to the Oldenburger sisters. Both sisters enjoy entertaining people and see it as a hobby.

Initially we wanted to vlog about topics for the over-50s such as support stockings, knitting or Viagra.

Brenda and Nienke have never felt influenced or involved while watching a vlog. “We occasionally watch our colleagues to see how they are doing, but we do not actively follow anyone. A vlog by Enzo Knol can be very interesting for young people to watch, but we often do not understand what it is about.” According to Brenda and Nienke, there is a huge difference between older and younger people when it comes to vlogging. “Even the youngest among us vlog. A visit to the playground is hong kong business mailing list online in no time. In addition, young people also watch many more vlogs. Given the landscape of vloggers, there is something for everyone to see: the gamers, the beauty lovers, the adventurers or the little scientists among us. Our grandchildren recognize themselves in the vloggers.”

People over 50 are scared by the word subscription, doesn't that cost money?

As Brenda and Nienke already indicated, vlogging is still very new among the 50-plussers. People within their network do watch their vlogs to see Brenda and Nienke. “50-plussers watch vlogs out of their own interest or because they know them. Furthermore, they hardly watch any vlogs or videos via YouTube.”

According to Brenda and Nienke, people over 50 still have to invent YouTube. “Take the word subscription for example. People over 50 immediately think that they are entering into a commitment in which they have to pay money every month.”
