Some of these things are probably true, while others are certainly detrimental to long-term success. What is astonishing is that all the truly successful salespeople I know do not behave in the way you would expect them to.

I'm sure the annoying and pushy hard-seller salesperson has had its day. If you want to be more successful in sales , you should leave this antiquated way of thinking behind and try something new. Typical salespeople have an answer to everything. They know the customer's problems before they even mention them, and of course salespeople have an answer to everything. The problem with answers that are too quick is that you miss the chance to really understand the problem and provide an even better answer. The customer might even buy because their question was answered directly and the effects of the problem were solved. Or maybe you could have found the cause of the problem instead of just treating the symptoms.

By not answering every superficial question but continuing to listen, the sales department creates a deeper and more consultative relationship between you and the customer. This relationship is usually more long-term and lucrative than the behavior of supposedly good salespeople. Really good salespeople help the customer first and foremost, even if this means less income for the company and the salesperson themselves in the short term.
