Today, we find ourselves in a moment in which we may need support ourselves or be willing to provide it. It is important to know that it is not necessary to be a psychologist to provide support at a given time to a close person, although it is true that, in professional environments, it is necessary to have specific training in this.
But what are the four key points when it comes to providing psychological support in crisis situations? We will look at each of them below.

It is necessary to be clear about the different elements that intervene in communication: the sender, the recipient, the message and the channel and, in turn, the types of language that can exist: verbal and non-verbal language.

Whenever there is an interaction with another person, we must have certain skills that allow us to relate to others effectively. In this case, it is important to highlight: active listening, negotiation and assertiveness. How can we define each of them?
Active listening
It is the ability to focus one's attention absolutely and completely on the message that the person is transmitting, to the point of being able to understand and elaborate the meaning of the message and give an appropriate response to it. All of this involves carrying out a process in which we must pay attention not only to the verbal message but also to the person's non-verbal language, analyze the emotional charge of the message, not interrupt or stop the person speaking, etc.
Negotiate
It means reaching an agreement between two or more parties, in this way, the interests of each of them must be satisfied.
Focusing on a negotiation in the healthcare field, there are several points to consider: what you want, what the other party wants, conveying a positive attitude, active listening, not breaking off the negotiation and ensuring that you and the other party are involved.
Be assertive
which is defined as the ability to express points of view and opinions in a clear and direct manner, but without maintaining a hostile or aggressive attitude towards the other party.
