GGoogle has made the decision to discontinue Google Podcasts as a standalone platform and instead invest in YouTube Music to improve the platform’s podcast experience, with the goal of becoming the preferred destination for both listeners and podcasters .

According to Edison data, roughly 23% of weekly podcast users in the US consider YouTube their primary service , compared to 4% who use Google Podcasts .
YouTube Music podcasts in the US now offer downloads, background playback in places like the car and smart speakers, and the ability to switch between audio and video formats . The platform has plans to expand this experience globally before the end of the year .
